course objectives
Upon completing this course, the delegates will be able to meet these overall objectives:
- Understand the features and operation of View, View design principles and ThinApp operation
You should be able to do the following:
- Install and configure View components
- Create and manage dedicated and floating desktop pools
- Deploy and manage linked-clone virtual desktops
- Configure and manage desktops that run in local mode
- Configure secure access to desktops through a public network
- Use ThinApp to package applications
- Describe the major components of the ThinApp architecture
- Modify Package.ini parameters to increase the variety and complexity of applications that can be virtualised
- Use Application Link to dynamically link application components like Microsoft.NET to multiple applications
- Use Application Sync to update applications deployed from servers
- Troubleshoot problems with ThinApp packages
- Identify design goals, requirements and constraints
- Indentify information that is required for design decisions
- Recognise situations that benefit from best-practice recommendations
- Use the recommended design process
- Analyse design choices in the following areas:
- View Manager infrastructure
- View desktop options
- vSphere infrastructure
- Network infrastructure
- Client access devices
- End-user management
- Construct a comprehensive View solution
prerequisites
Completion of:
- VMware vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage
- Or equivalent experience with vSphere

Upon completing this course, the delegates will be able to meet these overall objectives:
- Install and configure View components
- Create persistent and non-persistent desktop pools
- Configure virtual desktops for printing, USB redirection and multimedia redirection
- Configure authentication using devices such as smart cards or cryptographic authentication fobs
- Use VMware View Composer to deploy and manage linked clone virtual desktops
- Package applications using VMware ThinApp for a VMware virtual desktop infrastructure
prerequisites
Required prerequisites:
- Experience in Microsoft Windows Active Directory (AD) administration
- VMware Infrastructure: Install and Configure
Delegates must also have these skills:
- Create a template in VMware vCenter Server and deploy a virtual machine from it
- Modify a template customisation file
- Open a virtual machine console on vCenter Server and access the guest operating system
- Modify a virtual machines hardware (add disk, add NIC)
- Configure Windows AD roaming profiles
